Warren Browne, CPA, MBA

Principal

Warren brings almost 20 years of Accounting, Finance, and HR experience to Browne Consulting Group.  Since founding the company in 2016, he has lead it’s growth to a 50 person firm, while supporting over 100 clients.  Warren has consulted on dozens of venture backed companies from incorporation, advised companies as they grew through Series A, and supported companies going public or being acquired.

Prior to Browne Consulting Group, Warren held CFO and Director of Finance positions at fast growing companies.  In these roles, he oversaw all accounting, finance, and HR activity for the US entities.  Previous to that, Warren worked in Controller and Manager roles in varying industries, serving in an operational accounting capacity.

Q: What's your favorite quote or mantra? And why?

A: As the Founder of Browne Consulting Group, my favorite quote is “when you want to succeed, as bad as you want to breathe, then you’ll be successful.” – Eric Thomas. This powerful analogy demonstrates the laser-like focus needed to achieve one’s goal.

Q: What has been the most rewarding experience professionally for you to date?

A:  I have two that are equally special to me. The first is that as a life-long entrepreneur, I am now in a role where I can regularly work with great entrepreneurs, in an industry that is helping all of humankind. Secondly, we have created an environment at Browne Consulting Group where our team has opportunities to experience new challenges and expand their skill set. Seeing our team continue to grow professionally has been extremely rewarding.

Q: What attribute would you rank as number one for professional success?

A: Perseverance. The ability to continue in the face of difficulty is critical for so many roles. When persistence and passion mix, then it will make you unstoppable.

Eric Rubega, CPA, MS

Director

Eric Rubega brings over 14 years of accounting and finance experience to Browne Consulting Group. Eric has been promoted twice since joining us as a Controller. He is now a Director and leads a team of seven. He has advised clients on various operational, budgeting, and forecasting matters such as Budget to Actual with detailed explanations, IPO prep, Audit prep, Cap table modeling, NetSuite implementations and data migrations from QuickBooks, and procurement system implementations. Most of Eric’s clients are now in the clinical trial stage.

Prior to Browne Consulting Group, Eric was an Audit Manager with Blum Shapiro (now part of CLA). His client responsibilities ranged from real estate, investment funds, construction, architectural, staffing, and professional service firms. Prior to that, Eric worked as an auditor at Wolf & Company in Boston, where his clients were primarily in the life sciences industry. Eric audited clients anywhere from seed stage to publicly traded companies, all in the Cambridge, MA area.

Q: What has been the most exciting challenge of your professional career thus far?

A: The most exciting challenge of my professional career so far has been the M&A transaction that one of my clients went through during the summer of 2020. Novartis acquired Vedere Bio and ‘spun out’ their employees and some secondary R&D programs to form Vedere Bio 2. The 4-5 month process leading up to the actual acquisition was quite challenging and stressful, but I learned a ton and I got to be a major player in the overall process. As the CBO at the time said to me “we could not have done this without you.” That felt so great to hear. It was a particularly challenging project to be a part of that felt so good to see it finally actually close.

Q: What are you passionate about outside of work?

A: I am most passionate about my family. My wife and I have three young children at home that keep us remarkably busy. There really is not anything I would rather be doing than spending time with them – going on walks, playing in the backyard, swimming in the pool, or going to Cape Cod with the whole family to stay at my parent’s house. The flexibility that Browne Consulting Group has offered me is incredible – especially at the young age of our children. I have been able to watch them grow up so much more than if I had been having to go into the office five days a week.

Q: Do you like to travel? What was your favorite trip? Or what is your favorite upcoming trip?

A: Yes, I do like to travel. My favorite trip was to Croatia. It was an amazing boat trip along the Adriatic Sea coastline of Croatia. There were many cities there where Game of Thrones was filmed. The people there were so nice and friendly. The food and weather were incredible. I recommend it to everyone not sure of where to visit.

Q: What has been the most exciting challenge of your professional career thus far?

A: Joining a startup! When I accepted this opportunity to join as an HR team of one, it was terrifying! But this time has been the most rewarding part of my career to date. We are all pulling the rope in the same direction, everyone is thoughtful, and we’re all here to be a part of a thriving business that is helping life science startups.

Q: What's your favorite quote or mantra? And why?

A: My grandmother used to say, “It is what it is,” and I loved how simple, sweet, and true that was.  However, today, I say, “Life is what you make it.”

Q: What are you passionate about outside of work?

A: Feeding the pollinators and educating others about the importance of biodiversity.  It’s also a fancy way of saying – I love to garden and am fortunate to have a huge garden and an amazing group of neighbors that ask a ton of questions.

Tom Linden, CPA

Controller, Project Manager

Tom Linden brings over seven years of accounting and finance experience to Browne Consulting Group. As a Controller and Project Manager, Tom has been leading several company-wide initiatives to maintain our rigorous quality controls. He has advised clients on a variety of operational accounting matters, such as ERP & procurement system implementations, operational accounting, initial budget setting, and strategic HR (e.g., guidance on initial benefits, payroll and first hires, local regulatory compliance).

Prior to joining Browne Consulting Group, Tom was a Manager at EY, leading consulting projects in the Financial Services industry (projects including systems strategy and implementation, data strategy and automation, accounting change and SOX compliance). Before that he “cut his teeth” in accounting, financial reporting, and internal controls at John Hancock Financial Services in Boston.

Q: Why did you choose to work in the life science industry?

A: I was always surrounded by family in the life science industry here in Boston (including my little sister – a PhD candidate and future neuroscientist), this naturally piqued my interest after hearing enough stories. Though most companies like to tout products and services that “change the world,” it was not until I got into this industry that I met clients that do life-changing work daily.

Q: What do you like about working for Browne and/or your clients?

A: After working for large firms and advising enough whale-sized clients, I have learned the ramifications of having a half-baked strategy (or a good strategy that is poorly executed). I relish the opportunity to advise clients before and as they reach these inflection points instead of years after the fact.

Q: What are you passionate about outside of work?

A: Dog training. I always thought I would be more of a “passive” dog owner, but I have really grown to love training my one-year-old bird dog. If you found me eight months ago and told me this would become a passion of mine, I would not have believed a word of it.

Q: What is your favorite quote or mantra, and why?

Q: What attribute would you rank as number one for professional success?

A: I would say that the number one attribute to have for professional success is sincerity. Sincerity in anything you do will only foster sincere returns and those are the best type of professional successes.

Q: What are you passionate about outside of work?

A: Exercise. I was at a point in my life where I was 300 pounds. The moment my doctor told me I was pre-diabetic, I knew I needed to do something about it. I wasn’t going to take any pills to fix a situation that I had total control over. Since then, I hit the gym at least five times a week and make sure I eat healthy.

Q: Do you like to travel? What was your favorite trip? Or what is your favorite upcoming trip?

A: I love to travel. I was lucky enough in one of my prior employments to travel extensively to places like Singapore, Korea, Japan, China, Denmark, & Costa Rica. My all-time favorite trip was to Japan. It was just a completely different culture that was just fascinating. At the end of it though, we are alike and just humans of this earth.

I also work hard to ensure smooth and efficient monthly closes which in turn also leads to an easier audit.”

Q: What attribute would you rank as number one for professional success?

A: Being adaptive. In my experience in the professional world, things often don’t go to plan, so you have to be able to constantly adapt in order to solve problems when they arise.
